David Hasselhoff & Dwayne Johnson Team-Up in New 'Baywatch' Photos

Earlier this month, Dwayne Johnson sent out a new video from the Baywatch set, which revealed that the original Mitch Buchannon, David Hasselhoff, has come aboard for a role in the movie. Since Dwayne Johnson has taken over the Mitch Buchannon role, we still don’t know anything about who David Hasselhoff is playing. But today we got our first glimpse of The Hoff on the set, thanks to photos sent out through social media by The Rock, Zac Efron and David Hasselhoff himself. Here’s what Dwayne Johnson had to say about his new co-star on his Instagram page.

“In the 80’s he drove the coolest car on the planet. In the 90’s he dominated slo-mo running on the beach with the most successful TV show of all time. And today he’s simply Still the f’n man. Phenomenal day on set with my brotha – the OG himself David Hasselhoff – the man who started it all. Great dude with a great sense of humor. AND he trained his ass off for our movie.”

From the photos taken on the set, it seems that David Hasselhoff will still be a lifeguard in Baywatch, although nothing was revealed about his specific character. Regardless of who he’s playing, David Hasselhoff joins a cast that also includes Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera, Priyanka Chopra, Hannibal Buress, Jack Kesy, Amin Joseph and Latina pop star Belinda. Production started back in February, with Paramount already setting a May 19, 2017 release date.

The story follows a “by-the-book and very serious lifeguard,” played by Dwayne Johnson who joins forces with a “young rule-flouting hothead” (Zac Efron) to try and save their beach from environmental destruction by an oil tycoon. Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) is directing from a screenplay most recently written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Friday the 13th). Justin Malen (Bad Teacher 2) wrote the original draft of the script, with Dwayne Johnson also producing alongside Beau Flynn and Ivan Reitman.

The original Baywatch series started in 1989 on NBC, but it was cancelled after just one season. The show then came back in 1991 in first-run syndication, with new stars such as Pamela Anderson and Yasmine Bleeth, and it became a massive global sensation, remaining on the air until 2001. On the big screen David Hasselhoff most recently starred in The Devil’s Carnival: Alleluia! and Stretch, and last summer, he made an appearance in Syfy’s Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!. Take a look at the new photos from the set of Baywatch, featuring David Hasselhoff, Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

Baywatch comes to theaters May 19th, 2017.
