Now this is cool! Warner Bros. is actually letting someone in the art & marketing department finally have some fun. And the result is possibly the best poster we’ve seen this year. Suicide Squad gets a comic book inspired one-sheet that is both colorful and exciting, and it manages to get all of the characters front and center. They are all part of a huge atomic blast that sits atop a pile of pastel colored sludge and comic book phrases that look the the original 1960s Batman TV Show on acid. It’s truly unique.
From director David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch) comes Suicide Squad, starring Oscar nominee Will Smith (Ali, The Pursuit of Happyness), Oscar winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus), Joel Kinnaman (Netflix’s House of Cards) and Oscar nominee Viola Davis (The Help, Doubt). It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Supervillains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
The all-star ensemble cast for Suicide Squad also includes Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), and Jay Hernandez (El Diablo). Scott Eastwood and Ray Olubowale also appear in the movie, but their characters have not been revealed. Also making an apperance in the movie is Ben Affleck as Batman. And it’s rumore that Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor may show up as well.
Suicide Squad will be going up against The Weinstein Company’s drama The Founder and EuropaCorp’s comedy Nine Lives on August 5. This superhero adventure should have no trouble taking down The Founder and Nine Lives at the box office, but we’ll have to wait and see. While we’ll have to wait and see how this movie fares in theaters, Warner Bros. is already making plans for sequels and spinoffs.
Warner Bros. recently announced a Harley Quinn spinoff that may also feature characters like Batgirl and the Brids of Prey. Another report revealed that the studio is considering spinoffs for both The Joker and Boomerang as well, but it isn’t known how far along in development any of these projects are. Another report claimed the studio wants director David Ayer to come back for Suicide Squad 2, with the studio eyeing an early 2017 shoot, although that hasn’t been confirmed.
