Everyone knows Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead, and while we are all awaiting to see who “Lucille” decided to pick on at the end of season 6, he is keeping himself busy. Reedus is currently out promoting his new show Ride With Norman Reedus and as it turns out, there is another comic book character he may want to play. When the subject came up, Reedus said that he would like to take on the role of Ghost Rider.
Reedus was doing an interview with Uproxx about his new show which will be airing on AMC starting on June 12 and at the end of the interview, the subject of a Ghost Rider reboot came up. He was asked point blank if he would like to take on the role of Johnny Blaze and was very enthusiastic about the prospect. Here is what Reedus had to say about the hypothetical opportunity.
“Hell yeah. It would be a blast. Do I get a skull face that’s on fire and all that stuff? Fuck yeah. I’m down.”
Reedus clearly didn’t hesitate and his answer was short, sweet and to the point. He also acknowledged the Nicolas Cage version of the character and said that he liked it. Cage of course was the first to bring the character to the big screen with Ghost Rider and the maligned sequel Ghost RIder: Spirit of Vengeance. This was long before Marvel Studios was schooling the rest of Hollywood on how to bring their properties to life and since the last Ghost Rider film, the studio has regained the rights to the character, so a Marvel reboot is very possible.
Reedus’ new show Ride is all about his love of motorcycles and will be highlighting that culture, so the Ghost Rider thing seemed like a natural question. Not only that, but the actor has a history of being in comic book related stuff, of course with The Walking Dead and perhaps some have forgotten that he played Scud in Guillermo Del Toro’s Blade II. It doesn’t hurt that Reeuds knows how to handle a motorcycle and has the Johnny Blaze look down.
For those who may not know, Ghost Rider follows the character of Johnny Blaze, a stunt biker who had to sell his soul to Satan in order to save his father’s life. As a result, at night Blaze turns into a hellfire consumed super being named Ghost Rider who punishes evil doers. Rumors surfaced recently that Marvel Studios was looking to expand its Netflix lineup and Ghost Rider was amont the properties that were rumored to maybe be heading to the streaming service alongside Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Marvel hasn’t officially stated any plans for the character but if they are going to reboot Ghost Rider, it is a sure bet that Reedus will at least be getting a phone call.
