Harrison Barnes was a nonfactor for the Golden State Warriors throughout the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He barely contributed but the Warriors scrapped by regardless.
The chances of him starting against the Cleveland Cavaliers downgraded significantly due to his recent performance. As a result, he’s willing to accept a bench role in the NBA finals if it comes to that.
Barnes has no idea if he’ll start on Thursday in Game 1 against LeBron James & Co.
“It’s not necessarily about starting or coming off the bench or anything like that,” Barnes said on “The Damon Bruce Show” on 95.7 The Game. “I’m going to be ready to play Game 1 of the Finals whether I play 20 minutes off the bench or start and play 35, whatever it is. I’m going to do my job because … there is no better feeling than hoisting that championship trophy. That’s what we’re in it for.”
“We’ve seen this happen before. Guys have to sacrifice with the playoffs. I don’t think anyone had any issues with it.”
Barnes is a restricted free agent after the season. Andre Iguodala started in place of him in Game 7 against the Thunder. It’s likely that if Barnes takes the bench place, Iggy will start in his place.
Barnes had 5 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in 22 minutes off the bench.
The Warriors offered Barnes a 5 year, $82 million deal but he turned it down. He’s reportedly seeking closer to $18 million a season.
